Made of Bricks: Cities A – M

By Dan L. Mosier

This page is dedicated to the brickmakers who helped to build our cities and towns.

The table below lists the buildings and structures made of California bricks. You can use this information to study or identify known bricks in the brick structure if the structure still exists. If it is a former building site, you can use this information to identify remnant bricks, if any, in the ground. If the existing building has been renovated after the reported date in the Source, make sure the bricks have not been replaced before using the information in this table.

In the following list, the buildings are grouped by city and state in the first column and are listed in alphabetical order. Year of construction is given when known. If the building was demolished, it is shown as “razed” along with the year when known. Some buildings have multiple types of brick and multiple brickmakers, which are listed in their respective order when known. Where “Street” is blank, further research will be necessary to locate the exact address of the building, which may no longer be standing. Some addresses may be listed as their original addresses as reported, not the current one. Under source, “Pers. Obs., 2001” indicates that I have personally identified the brick at the site in the year 2001.
